Why Your Mind Races Even When Your Body Is Still
Last Friday at 8:47 PM a friend called me from his car
He was parked outside his house
engine off
hands on the steering wheel
but he could not get himself to go inside
He said his body was tired
his shoulders heavy from a long week
yet his thoughts were speeding at full pace
Between 8:47 and 9:03 PM he described how his mind jumped nonstop
to the meeting he had at 10:00 AM earlier that day
to the message he forgot to answer at 2:15 PM
to an argument from last month that still bothered him
and then straight into fears about what Monday might bring
By the time he finally stepped out of the car and went inside at 9:10 PM
he felt more drained than before
and he still had not switched off when he went to bed at 11:30
What does that mean
Your nervous system can stay on high alert even when your body is not moving
The silence of the evening does not calm it
It often amplifies what was pushed away during the day
That is why you can feel wired inside
while your body is screaming for rest
Why this matters
If you have ever
sat in silence but felt anything but calm
lay in bed exhausted but unable to shut off your thoughts
or noticed your mind running faster the moment the outside world slowed down
then you know this state
It is not laziness
it is not lack of discipline
it is your system carrying unprocessed stress into every quiet moment
What I would love from you
When was the last time your mind kept racing even though your body was ready to stop
How did it show up for you
and how did the next day feel after a night like that
