Hey,

it's Marc.

A few months ago

I woke up after eight hours of sleep.

I should have felt refreshed.

Instead

I already felt mentally tired.

Not exhausted.

Just...

heavy.

I hadn't answered any emails.

Hadn't started working.

Hadn't dealt with any problems.

Yet my brain already felt full.

For a while

I blamed my sleep.

Maybe I needed more hours.

A better mattress.

Another supplement.

But the real reason surprised me.

The moment I opened my phone

my brain went to work.

Messages.

Headlines.

Weather.

Emails.

Social media.

Within ten minutes

my brain had already processed hundreds of pieces of information.

None of them were urgent.

But all of them demanded attention.

Your brain doesn't just get tired from doing difficult things.

It also gets tired from constantly switching.

Every new piece of information asks your brain one question.

"Is this important?"

Most of the time

the answer is no.

But your brain still has to make that decision.

Again.

And again.

And again.

That's called cognitive load.

The more information you consume

the less mental energy remains

for the things that actually matter.

What helped me

I stopped looking at my phone

during the first thirty minutes after waking up.

Instead

I made coffee.

Sat quietly.

Looked outside.

Wrote down the three things that mattered most that day.

That small change didn't make life perfect.

But it changed how my mornings felt.

I started work with a calm mind

instead of a crowded one.

The lesson

Your morning doesn't just set your schedule.

It sets your brain.

The first information you consume

often shapes the mental state

you carry through the rest of the day.

So tomorrow morning

before reaching for your phone

ask yourself:

"Do I want to start my day with my own thoughts..."

"Or everyone else's?"

That single decision

might change your entire day.
