Hey,
it’s Marc.
A few nights ago around 11 48 PM
I noticed something strange.
I was exhausted.
Not “a little tired” exhausted.
The kind where your eyes burn
and your body clearly wants sleep.
And yet
there I was
switching between apps
watching random videos
refreshing the same feeds
Almost automatically.
And the weirdest part?
I wasn’t even enjoying it.
That’s when I caught myself thinking:
“If I’m this tired…
why can’t I just stop?”
Here’s what most people don’t realize
Your brain doesn’t only crave rest.
It also craves stimulation.
Especially after a stressful day.
Because constant stimulation
temporarily distracts you
from mental tension.
So even when your body wants recovery
your brain keeps searching
for one more hit of input.
One more scroll.
One more video.
One more distraction.
The problem with this
Your nervous system never fully lands.
And when your brain never experiences real silence
it slowly loses sensitivity.
Normal life starts feeling “too quiet.”
Simple moments feel boring.
Focus becomes harder.
Stillness feels uncomfortable.
What helped me that night
I put my phone in another room.
Not forever.
Just for 10 minutes.
No music.
No podcast.
No screen.
Just sitting in silence.
At first
my brain hated it.
But after a few minutes
I felt something shift.
My breathing slowed.
My shoulders relaxed.
The mental pressure softened.
That’s the part people miss
Silence feels uncomfortable
when your nervous system is overstimulated.
But discomfort is not danger.
Sometimes it’s just your brain
relearning how to be still again.
So if your mind constantly craves noise
don’t immediately ask
“What’s wrong with me?”
Ask:
“When was the last time my brain experienced real quiet?”
Because clarity often returns
the moment overstimulation stops.
Stay sharp
