Hey,
it’s Marc.
A few nights ago
I finally had nothing to do.
No work left.
No messages waiting.
No urgent tasks.
Everything was done.
And still
I couldn’t relax.
I kept feeling this strange pressure.
Like I should be doing something.
Checking something.
Planning something.
Improving something.
Even though
there was no real reason to.
And I think many people live like this now.
Their body sits still
but internally
they never stop moving.
What’s actually happening
When your nervous system spends enough time in stress mode
your brain adapts to constant stimulation.
Being “on” starts feeling normal.
So the moment things become quiet
your brain interprets stillness
as unfamiliar.
And unfamiliar often feels uncomfortable.
That’s why many people:
scroll without wanting to
check their phone automatically
or feel restless during silence
Not because they lack discipline.
Because their nervous system
forgot what calm feels like.
I noticed something important that evening
The pressure slowly disappeared
the longer I stayed still.
Not instantly.
But gradually.
My breathing slowed.
My thoughts softened.
The urgency faded.
And that reminded me of something powerful.
Calm is a state
your nervous system has to relearn.
Especially after long periods
of overstimulation.
What helps
Less constant input.
More pauses without distraction.
Moments where your brain
doesn’t immediately reach for dopamine.
Because silence is not empty.
It is where recovery begins.
So if you constantly feel
like you should be doing something
even when you are exhausted
don’t immediately assume
you are lazy
unfocused
or broken.
Your system may simply be stuck
in survival mode.
And survival mode
cannot fully relax.
Stay sharp
