Hey,

it's Marc.

Last week

I opened my browser

to finish one simple task.

Five minutes later

I had twelve tabs open.

An article.

A YouTube video.

A message.

A product I didn't need.

A random question I wanted to look up.

And somehow

the original task

was still unfinished.

That moment made me realize something.

My brain wasn't struggling

because there was too much to do.

It was struggling

because there was too much left unfinished.

There's something interesting

about unfinished tasks.

Your brain doesn't like them.

In psychology

this is known as the Zeigarnik Effect.

Unfinished tasks

tend to stay active in your mind.

They quietly occupy mental space.

Even when you're not working on them.

The more open loops you create

the harder it becomes

to fully focus on the task in front of you.

Your attention gets divided.

Not by what's happening now.

But by everything

you haven't finished yet.

What helped me

I stopped trying to make progress

on ten different things.

Instead

I picked one task.

Finished it completely.

Then moved to the next.

At first

it felt slower.

But after a few days

I noticed something surprising.

My mind felt quieter.

I wasn't constantly thinking about

everything I still had to do.

Because there were fewer open loops

competing for my attention.

The lesson

Your brain doesn't just need productivity.

It needs closure.

Every completed task

frees a little mental energy.

Every unfinished one

quietly asks for more.

So if your mind has been feeling crowded lately

don't immediately ask:

"How can I get more done?"

Ask:

"What can I completely finish today?"

One closed loop

is often more powerful

than ten new beginnings.

Stay sharp
