Hey,
it's Marc.
I used to make one mistake almost every morning.
And I didn't realize how much it affected me.
I would wake up...
reach for my phone...
and immediately enter someone else's world.
Messages.
Notifications.
Instagram.
Emails.
News.
Before my feet even touched the floor, my brain already had ten different things to think about.
And the strange thing was...
I thought this was normal.
Until I tried something ridiculously simple.
No phone for the first 10 minutes.
That's it.
Not one hour.
Not some complicated morning routine.
Just 10 minutes.
What happened surprised me
Instead of immediately reacting to the outside world, I gave myself a few minutes to actually wake up.
I drank some water.
Opened the window.
Moved around.
Sometimes I just sat there for a few minutes.
Nothing impressive.
But my mornings started feeling different.
Less rushed.
Less reactive.
More intentional.
And there's a reason this can feel so powerful.
The moment you open your phone, you're giving your attention something to respond to.
A message creates a thought.
A headline creates an emotion.
An email creates a task.
A notification creates curiosity.
Suddenly, your mind has gone from quiet to crowded.
Before you've even decided what you want to focus on.
What helped me
I started treating the first 10 minutes of my morning like a buffer.
No Instagram.
No emails.
No news.
No scrolling.
Just 10 minutes before letting the outside world in.
And here's the important part:
I don't try to make those 10 minutes productive.
I don't need a perfect morning routine.
I don't need to meditate, journal, stretch, read and drink some magical green drink.
The goal is simply to avoid immediately handing over my attention.
The lesson
How you start your morning doesn't determine your entire day.
But it can influence what gets your attention first.
So tomorrow morning, before you reach for your phone, try something.
Wait 10 minutes.
Let your brain wake up before the rest of the world gets access to it.
And then notice how you feel.
Sometimes the smallest experiments teach you the most.
Stay sharp
